Summary:
The Member Service Specialist provides timely and professional support to Travis Credit Union (TCU) members and staff by processing online requests for new membership or new accounts, assisting with IRAs, Trusts, Power of Attorneys, and dormant and/or deceased account transactions.
By consolidating these service offerings into one team, TCU provides specialized member services while ensuring regulatory compliance and credit union risk management.
Profile:
Provides timely and professional support to branch staff by answering questions and assisting in completing complex member service transactions.
Responds to all member inquiries regarding the various deposit products and services via phone or mail, including processing account maintenance requests and potential members looking to establish a new account.
Offers appropriate products and services to members to meet their financial needs.
Researches and verifies new membership eligibility from TCU's online membership and pending account statuses in web application.
Audits and tracks the accuracy of all IRA, CESA, & HSA transactions performed by TCU staff.
Performs corrections and composes member correspondence to obtain corrected or additional documentation as needed in a timely manner to ensure proper and accurate IRS reporting.
Establishes Traditional, Roth, CESA, HSA and SEP IRAs.
Processes incoming and outgoing requests for IRA transfers and rollovers.
Processes requests for conversions, and corrects excess contributions and exceptions as needed.
Establishes new IRA and Share Certificates.
Processes IRA and Share Certificate maturity notices.
Assists other departments or branches with dividend adjustments and/or certificate account corrections.
Maintains all IRA Accounts for 70 IRA owners.
Processes the 70 IRA Distribution report, to include the mailing of RMD letters, election forms and the IRA withholding reminder notices.
Processes End of Year report to ensure the RMD factors are calculated correctly.
Reviews and validates the following annual tax forms and processes corrections as necessary to ensure timely and accurate delivery to the membership:
1099INT, 1099R, 1099Q, 1099SA, 5498, 5498ESA, 5498SA.
Accountable for all aspects of research, investigation, and communication of dormant accounts to respective account owners.
Monitors and completes the escheat process for all 50 states based on each state's dormancy and reporting periods through state-specific methods, escheat schedules and state regulations, ensuring TCU policies and practices are current and compliant.
Processes all centralized branch transactions for deceased members' accounts, including IRA, Certificates and Trust accounts.
Works with estate attorneys, executors and administrators to ensure the proper disposition of the decedent's estate.
As part of Deceased Account management, supports the lending and collection departments for proper settlement of existing loan balances while also working with the Insurance Services department, when an outstanding loan has protection.
Facilitates correspondence on pending unsettled or unclaimed accounts to beneficiary(s), and follows up on any missing documents in a timely manner.
Coordinates the disposition of Safe Deposit contents with the Branch Operations department to distribute to the named beneficiary(s).
Processes and maintains youth accounts, memorial accounts and the monthly exception reports.
Develops and delivers effective, customized training for Retail member-contact staff on Member Services Administration (MSA) related topics, such as IRAs, Trusts, Power of Attorneys, etc.
Develops and maintains internal department procedures and ensures consistency and ease of use through SilverCloud; the credit union's knowledge management system.
Delivers accurate & timely completion of all the Affidavit of Support and Verification of Deposit Requests received via mail and through online requests by Social Security & Medicaid.
Skills:
Working knowledge of Financial Industry Account Products and Services with an in-depth knowledge of Specialty Accounts and Services (IRA's, certificates, trusts, tax reporting, Escheatment Processing, Power of Attorney's and decedent accounts).
Strong nationwide regulatory knowledge with successful history of adherence.
Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with members in stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
The ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels of staff and members.
Works independently and is self-motivated to complete tasks within required timeframes and with minimal supervision.
Multitasker in a fast-paced work environment Effective experience cross-selling credit union products and services.
Strong organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Promotes teamwork and a cooperative effort among employees.
Must be flexible with work schedule, to include working Saturdays as needed.
Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Compensation:
Base hourly starting range is commensurate with experience.
Associate Member Service Specialist - Grade 8:
$19.
75/hour - $24.
39/hour Member Service Specialist - Grade 9:

59/hour - $31.
