The City of Vacaville is currently hiring for Firefighter/Paramedic I. All testing through National Testing Network (NTN) must be completed by April 6, 2015.
Salary Information:
Firefighter/Paramedic I is the entry classification of the series. Incumbents are promoted to Firefighter/Paramedic II upon successful completion of the Vacaville in-house training academy (typically 12 weeks).
Firefighter/Paramedic I salary: $6,518 per month (during in-house academy)
Firefighter/Paramedic II salary: $7,333-$8,913 per month
Vacaville Firefighter/Paramedics currently work a 48/96 shift schedule, resulting in an average workweek of 56 hours.

The Organization and Fire Department: Fire Chief Frank Drayton has been directing the Fire Department since July 2012. The Department consists of 81 total full-time/part-time employees, including 71 sworn safety positions. Annual emergency response calls for the Department are approximately 8,800, with medical emergency calls accounting for approximately 80% of the total.
The Department consists of two divisions: Field Operations (including training and emergency response), and Fire Prevention (which includes the fire prevention bureau and code compliance). The Fire Department serves the residents located within the 28 square miles of the City of Vacaville. Its paramedic program is one of the oldest in Northern California, approved by Vacaville voters in 1977. The Department also provides ambulance service to a 160 square mile area of unincorporated Solano County. Vacaville's Fire Department is a full service department and employs state of-the-art equipment at four strategically-located stations to respond to fire emergencies and provides complete paramedic response and transport for emergency medical calls.
The Position: Nine (9) vacancies are being created with the opening of Vacaville's newest fire station (expected to open late 2015). This recruitment will also be used to establish a list for future vacancies that may occur over the next 12-month period. Vacaville Firefighter/Paramedics perform skilled work in emergency fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention, investigation activities and other activities that support the protection of life and property. Firefighter/Paramedics assume primary responsibility for patient care at the scene of a medical emergency; assist in the maintenance and care of all stations, apparatus and equipment; and perform other related duties normally associated with the position of professional Firefighter/Paramedic.

oProof of successful completion of California State Fire Marshal approved, or equivalent, Firefighter 1 training/academy curriculum.
oCopy of current, valid California Paramedic License.
oProof of successful completion of CPAT (CFFJAC only) dated within 12 months prior to the final filing date.
oCopy of current, valid California Class C (or higher) Driver's License.
At time of appointment to a position with the City, successful candidates must have:
oA current, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card.
oA current, valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professional certification (PESS).
oA current, valid Prehospital Trauma Life Support certification (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support certification (BTLS/ITLS).

Applicants must successfully pass the FireTeam testing process, submit all required documentation with their City of Vacaville application, and meet minimum requirements for the position in order to continue in the process. Based on the size of the candidate pool, a limited number of the highest scoring candidates, who have met all other requirements, may be invited to continue in the examination process which will include the paramedic skills test, oral board interview, comprehensive background investigation and a post-offer, pre-employment medical and psychological evaluation.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
