Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers.
As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Utility Gas Service Representative duties include Company generated scheduled meter changes, Smart Meter module changes, atmospheric corrosion and non-hazardous leak repair and remediation on gas meters 630 CFH or less.
Perform pilot relights as needed in connection with meter changes.
Employees who have met the necessary training requirements may assist others in support of other work being performed.

The individual must be able to drive safely, work extended hours; travel/transfer to a new headquarters upon request at any time, and wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment.

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E and is subject to collective bargaining.
In addition, it is a Department of Transportation covered classification and is subject to random drug screening.

This position may be offered a shift based on business need and availability.
The Shifts are as follows:

- Monday thru Friday

- Tuesday thru Saturday

Job Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies.
  • Maintain a high standard of public relations and personal appearance.
  • Successfully complete all job-related training requirements.
  • Identify broken seals, diversion, meter tampering, vandalism, lost meters and other instances of energy theft.
  • Must successfully complete the Post Offer Physical Assessment (POPA).
  • Identify and report any abnormal operating conditions.
  • Collect and verify gas meter module information.
  • Turn module radios on and off.
  • Turn offs and Shut-Off Non Pay (SONP) residential gas only.
  • Assists others in the Gas Service Department in performing gas metering work, performs necessary paperwork and shop duties.
    If necessary, may performed meter reads on any gas or electric meter.
  • May assist a Gas Service employee higher in the LOP with riser valve replacement.
  • Perform atmospheric corrosion inspections as part of their job duties.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to present a valid CA Driver License on day 1 of the job.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Internal PG&E Employees:
    Must have qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam, Industrial Skills Test (IST), and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) prior to applying.
  • External and Hiring Hall Candidates:
    Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam, Industrial Skills Test (IST), and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) prior to interviewing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds a one time a day.

Desired:

  • Experience in construction, plumbing, HVAC, auto mechanics, or basic electrical skills.
  • Graduate from the Bridge to Utility Worker Power Pathway Program.
  • Current or previous PG&E employee.
  • Current or previous Hiring Hall employee.
  • Must reside within 60 minutes of job location.

You must have qualified on all prerequisite tests prior to submitting an application; and all secondary tests prior to interviewing.
